I made a costume out of playing cards, I was the Queen of hearts

Many people describe me a vivacious. I have always been extremely creative and adventurous. I am a senior at Appalachian State University in a lovely place called Boone, NC. The main reason why I choose to go to Appalachian State University was all about the location. Who wouldn’t want to wake up every morning to beautiful mountains. I also wanted to enrolled at Appalachian State University because they had a steel drum band, even though I do not play the drums. I just thought it was interesting. I am going to be graduating in May with an Elementary Education degree. I am very excited about beginning my new life as a teacher. So this all about me, so keep all hands and feet in the chart at all times and enjoy the ride!

Becoming a teacher...

This has always been a scary thought for me. To think of myself as a teacher, one who is shaping the world for generations to come, is uncanny. My first path of choice was international business with a minor in French. I thought that I would travel the world in my business suits overcoming stimulations that women did not believe in business. Once I began my business classes I began to notice something missing; I did not enjoy what I was doing.

It was not until I taught my niece how to tie her shoes that I relieved that I should be a teacher. Watching her run around the house showing everyone something that I had taught her was priceless. My path was now illuminated and I understood I was meant to be a teacher.

I enjoy watching faces explode with excitement when full comprehension occurs. I believe with positive guidance and the right manipulative anyone can learn anything their heart desires. I wish to be the positive guidance that is needed to reach their goals. I enjoy explaining, describing, and exploring new concepts with anyone and everyone that will learn and are willing to broaden their knowledge.

I have worked with children for six years. I volunteered at Aberdeen Elementary School as a teacher assistance. It was there where I developed a love for exploring new knowledge with children. The children at this school were thriving for new information. I also worked at Valle Crucis with fifth dimension. Fifth dimension is a program linked with a college course at Appalachian State University. It was a rewarding experience to witness elementary students and college students learning and working together.

This is what I love to do:

Hiking the Wilson Creek gorge

Hiking the Wilson Creek gorge

I find delight in hiking the breathtaking Blue Ridge Parkway. I probably spent at least four hours of my day hiking and exploring trails, rivers, and waterfalls. The views are astonishing and the experience is peaceful. My friends and I have picnics, swim, and allow the dogs to venter out and explore.

Taking pictures is another activity that I find rewarding. My friends appreciate my desire to take pictures because they say it is like always having someone to document their lives. In a day, I probably take at least 100 pictures. Although I probably delete 50 pictures for multiple reasons. I believe taking pictures is one of the most important things in life because they tell stories and bring an experience to light again. When people find an old photograph of a great time in their life, one can not help but to smile. The same feelings that you felt when that picture was taken comes rushing back to you like a hurricane. You get that feel deep within that just telling a story can not do. I enjoy sharing my pictures with other people to see the emotions that they provoke.

I love, love, love sports. I played soccer for my varisity soccer team in high school. I played defence, but somehow I was able to make three goals through out my soccer career. I also played volleyball, baseball, and basketball for my middle school. Growing up, for about seven years, I was the only girl in the whole baseball league. I was one of the best pitchers. My coach advised me to tuck my hair into my cap at the beginning of every game until I would strike out the first batter. Then I would take my cap off so that everyone could see I was a girl. I had to go to court multiple times to defend the right for me to play in the baseball league. I was always told that baseball was for boys and softball was for girls, I never listened. I just wanted to play baseball. Once I became an Appalachian Mountaineer, I quickly became a fan of football.

I enjoy pretty much everything, but there are a few things that I do not like…

I can not tolerate rude people. I do not understand the need for complete strangers to be rude to one another. I wait tables as my source of income and I have experience some of the most unpleasant people of my life. I am a thoughtful and respectful person and I expect the same from others. But that ties into something else that I do not like. I really do not like confrontations. Instead of conflicts, I normally find a way around the problem and just try to fix it myself without adding more problems.

I really do not like onion and mushrooms. I enjoy cooking with onion for the flavor, but I do not wish to see them while I am eating. As far as mushrooms are concern, I do not like their smell, the way they look, or their texture. They are just so mushy and smelly.

I am used to having my dog with me at all times, but seeing she is getting older and needs more attention, she is living with my mom. I miss not having her kicking me and snoring extremely loud while we are sleeping. I have a 14 year old blind and deaf cocker spaniel. She is the most charismatic 14 year old dog. I dread the fact that I do not have her up here with me anymore

I am a green eyed, dirty blonde princess, that is what I see in the mirror…

Throughout my life, I have made a lot of changes. I have had blue and pink hair, I have tried color contacts, and I have had multiple styles of clothing. But as I have gotten older, I had relieved that just being who you are is the best look for you. I love my eyes. They look to change colors so no one really knows what color my eyes are. Some days they are a dark brown with hints of green and on other days they are a brilliant emerald with specks of brown.

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE to smile. Smiling is one of my favorite hobbies. I like to see how many people I can get to smile with me. I love making people laugh and enjoy life with a large smile upon their face. Even when I am sad, I always try to smile because I believe that if you smile then everyone will smile with you. I have two dimples( one is fading away) that everyone notices very quickly when I smile or talk.

“Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
Thats the time you must keep on trying
Smile, whats the use of crying?
Youll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile” –Nat King Cole’s song “Smile”

How I act…

I have always been known as the person to create something out of nothing. I am the person that can make anything and everything fun and exciting. I have an ability to change words using intonation of my voice to make it something completely different. I love asking people why? Next time someone tells you something, ask them why. I bet they will not have an answer for you. I am silly, electric, stimulating, and enlightening. I am extremely known for being LOUD . Not just loud in my speaking voice, but with my action, clothing, and personality. I LOVE to be the center of attention. Multiple people have told me the you know the moment I arrive because a vibrate vibe engulfs everyone, plus most people can hear me before they see me. I enjoy joking around and no taking situation serious; although this has been known to get me in trouble too. If someone needs a smile or hug…I am the first one there to aid in their assistance.

about me presentation
This is a PowerPoint presentation all about ME!!!!

This PowerPoint presentation is aided for 3-6 grade. The idea of this lesson is to introduce the students on the first day of school. Ideally I would like the students to come in and run through my PowerPoint. This would be used to also introduce their first assignment of making their own MeMaps. This would be the model that the students would be asked to follow. The students will discuss the different components of my map and relate this to themselves. This will be used as an ice breaker so the students will have an idea of who I am outside of the classroom. The students may even be able to relate to different topics discussed. Hopefully this will excite my students about their first assignment.

    Hi Savannah,
Well you and Lauren have something in common…let’s see if you can figure out what it is… I must say, I LOVE that story about you being a baseball pitcher and tucking your hair under your cap and then removing your cap…that is a WONDERFUL story! I really appreciate your thorough explanations; you not only told us what you like, but also, you shared WHY it is important to you…thank you. I will look for that beautiful smile in class everyday.

I like that you put you love to take pictures! I do too but I’m not very devoted to it. I always forget to take my camera places. Your descriptions were very thorough and I loved the pictures you used to tie into your text. I did notice a few places where you left out letters of words, but other than that I really enjoyed your page!
